Community Discussion for 1/5/11: Stress
We were lucky to have the opportunity again for Karen Hughes from the Liberation Program, located in the Darien Town Hall to talk about stress. Liberation Program is a agency that deals with addictions for people of all ages. Not to say that these kids have any addictions, but Karen is a great teacher who explains the severity of all different types of addictions. This is Karen's 3rd time coming to DHS to talk to the CORE kids, we hope we get the chance for her to come again!

Community 12/16: Gingerbread Houses
For today's community, the CORE kids and staff built gingerbread houses. Everyone had a fun time and all of the houses were very artistic. All of the gingerbread houses are in the CORE room on a shelf for display.

Community Discussion for 12/14: Happiness
During the lunch period, the CORE students and staff worked together to cook a fabulous brunch for the holidays. The pancakes and bacon were DELICIOUS!!
Next, while we all sat at the table to eat our pancakes, we went around talking about what happiness means to you and what makes someone happy. We also discussed if we agreed on this following quote: "If you love somebody and you let they let you go, it will come back to you like a butterfly."

Senior Center 2010
On December 8th we all walked over to deliver tea and cookies to the senior center. The students were helping the seniors with holiday crafts or playing ping pong (and being soundly beaten) with the seniors. This is our second annual holiday tea, we all enjoyed ourselves. Jacob R was featured with a trumpet solo, and several seniors led with Christmas Carols. The high point was a senior at the young age of 99 who sang a solo of O' Christmas Tree in German. We can't wait for our return visit in the Spring.
